LESCO Installs Scanning Meters

The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has begun installing scanning meters and aerial bundled cables in high-theft areas across Lahore, Kasur, Okara, Sheikhupura, and Nankana Sahib. According to LESCO CEO Engineer Shahid Haidar, this move has helped reduce electricity theft.

To boost safety, insulated conductors have also been added in green areas like GOR, Cantt, Johar Town, and Gulberg. A new Health, Safety, and Environment Directorate has been formed to prevent accidents.

The company is currently installing 535,000 smart meters under its five-year business plan. So far, 55,000 have been set up. This, along with other efforts, has helped cut losses and recover Rs. 4.23 billion from detection bills and Rs. 35.12 billion from private defaulters.

Workshops in Kasur and Sheikhupura are now reclaiming transformers, saving nearly Rs. 100 million annually and improving service.

It has also built seven new 132kV grid stations, upgraded 16 transformers, and carried out line reconductoring over 116 km. Over 4,000 transformers have been installed to boost supply efficiency. The company aims to complete more upgrades by mid-2025.

LESCO has taken action against 1,400 officers for corruption and negligence, including the dismissal of 97 employees in higher positions.

  • Unless and Untill **LESCO PUT THESE CORRUPT CRIMINALS OFFICERS AND LOWER STAFF NAME LISTS IN THE MEDIA THIER CLAIM OF REMOVING THESE STAFF FROM LESCO IS FALSE AND EYE WASHIG??**

  • Has LESCO undertaken such surveillance measures over its own staff, the ‘muft khoras’, who consume millions of free units worth billions of rupees year after year? If not, there is no use undertaking such steps. The main culprits are these DISCOs and their employees. If they are honest and efficient, power theft can be addressed.

    • جو اعجاز ہے ڈی ایچ اے میں وہ ایسٹ کا ملازم ہے اور وہ ویسٹ میں کام کر رہا ہے

  • I still have my doubts that LESCO will achieve any fruitful results by these measures. The department has a lot to do to build up it’s credibility in the eyes of it’s consumers. The department has to get ride of it’s all corrupt elements…Reportedly the staff of the SDO office Mazoang Lahore is a big mafia & has a private office from where they operate instead of the the official office.

  • Thank goodness for this initiative for nabbing the electricity thieves. All my life I have used a Cooler and yet my bills is more than those having more than 2 Air conditioners.

  • Such news comes and disappears but we have never seen solid improvement in affairs of discos. Discos are full of corrupt officials hired without merit. Free electricity being provided to lesco officials should henceforth be stopped without which these establishment will never be sustainable units. Lesco should install such meters which may pass on electricity through charged cards or advance payments made on line as is done at toll plazas. This will be only safe way to stop electricity theft and reduce losses.
