WhatsApp Calls Are Getting Upgrades In the Next Update

WhatsApp is introducing several new features aimed at improving the user experience for voice and video calls on Android. According to a recent report by WABetaInfo, these updates were spotted in the beta version 2.25.10.16 of WhatsApp for Android and are currently being tested with a limited group of users.

A New Mute Option

One of the features under testing is a mute button that appears in the notification panel during an incoming voice call. This allows users to mute their microphones before answering the call. While its practical use might not be immediately obvious, it could be helpful in situations where users are in a noisy environment and want to join the call without background interference.

New Camera Toggle Button

The second feature gives users the ability to disable their camera before answering a video call. This option is particularly useful for those who want a few moments to prepare before appearing on screen or who prefer not to use their camera at all. It also adds a degree of privacy when receiving calls from unfamiliar contacts, as the camera won’t activate automatically upon answering.

Real-Time Emoji Reactions

The third feature adds support for emoji reactions during video calls. This allows participants to express themselves non-verbally in real time, which could make conversations more interactive and visually engaging without interrupting the speaker.

Gradual Rollout

At the moment, these features are only accessible to selected beta testers. However, WhatsApp is expected to expand availability to more users in the coming weeks as testing progresses. It’s not yet known when these tools will be available in the stable version of the app.
