How Many Games Will Kane Williamson Miss for Karachi Kings?

Karachi Kings’ hopes of making a strong start to PSL 2025 will have to do without star signing Kane Williamson, who is set to miss a good chunk of their Pakistan Super League (PSL) X campaign, as confirmed by team owner Salman Iqbal.

Salman Iqbal has revealed that the New Zealand batting great will not be available for five opening-round matches, which comes as a setback for a franchise looking to make a run for the title. According to the Kings’ schedule, Williamson will miss games against Sultans, Qalandars, Gladiators, United, and Zalmi.

While Karachi Kings have not officially disclosed the reason behind Williamson’s unavailability, there is a general consensus that the Kiwi is tied up with commentary duties during the Indian Premier League (IPL), raising further questions about his scheduling commitments in what is shaping up to be a packed cricket calendar.

The 33-year-old was also battling a quad strain picked up during the final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025—an injury that forced him to miss both the T20I and ODI series against Pakistan recently, which may have played a role in his delayed arrival.

According to current projections, Kane Williamson is expected to link up with the squad in time for Karachi Kings’ clash against Quetta Gladiators on April 25—a fixture that could mark his much-anticipated PSL 2025 debut. Interestingly, the veteran New Zealand batter had initially gone unsold in the PSL 2025 draft before Karachi Kings picked him up during the supplementary round—a move that raised eyebrows but was seen as a smart piece of business by the Kings’ management.

Kane Williamson’s absence places even more responsibility on the shoulders of newly appointed captain David Warner, who has been brought in to lead Karachi Kings into a new era. Warner, alongside overseas recruits Tim Seifert and Adam Milne, will be tasked with steering the side out of a rough patch after their underwhelming fifth-place finish in PSL 2024.

The Kings will kick off their PSL 10 campaign against Multan Sultans on April 12, as part of the first double-header day of the tournament.

While Karachi’s fans will have to wait a little longer to see Kane Williamson in action, the franchise remains hopeful that once available, the New Zealand maestro will add the experience and quality needed to ignite their season.
