The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has approved the development of food streets and pedestrian-friendly tracks in Islamabad’s Blue Area, aiming to improve the city’s public spaces and support local businesses.
CDA Chairman and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, chaired the 7th board meeting where the plan was finalised. The initiative is expected to enhance walkability and create lively spots for residents and visitors.
Randhawa directed officials to make full use of available resources to beautify the capital and boost its economic activity. Alongside the food streets, the board approved several other key projects, including the redevelopment of the Arts and Crafts Village and the creation of a dedicated Building and Housing Control Agency.
A third-party audit will be carried out for all ongoing development projects to ensure transparency. The CDA will also run a public awareness campaign against illegal housing societies, with names of such schemes to be published online and in media. A zone-wise list of legal housing societies will also be made public.
The board further approved the restoration of Plot No. 28 in I-8 Markaz, creation of new posts in Estate Management Directorate-III, and granted a three-month extension to Rawalpindi Waste Management Company for daily waste collection operations.
