The Canadian High Commission has announced an open call for applications for the position of Honorary Consul General in Karachi, a move seen as a renewed effort to deepen ties between Canada and Pakistan.
The five-year appointment aims to enhance Canada’s engagement in Sindh, focusing on cultural, political, and economic cooperation. Interested candidates have until June 15 to apply, according to a public notice issued by the High Commission.
Fluency in both English and French is required, reflecting Canada’s bilingual nature. The selection process will include a written test, interviews, and background checks.
This new appointment follows the passing of Bahrum D. Avari in 2023, who previously served in the role. The Canadian government now seeks to ensure continued representation in the region through this honorary position.
While not a full-time diplomatic role, the Honorary Consul General will act as a key link between Canadian institutions and local stakeholders, offering support to Canadian citizens, promoting trade opportunities, and representing Canada’s interests.
The position includes engagement with government bodies, community organizations, and business leaders in Karachi and beyond, making it a pivotal role in advancing Canada’s presence in southern Pakistan.
