English Pacer Labels PSL as World’s Best T20 League

England’s seasoned fast bowler David Willey has given a glowing endorsement of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), calling it the best cricket league in the world as he prepares to turn out for Multan Sultans in the landmark 10th edition of the tournament.

The 35-year-old left-arm seamer, who was part of England’s 2022 T20 World Cup-winning squad, shared his thoughts with reporters on Wednesday during a media interaction at National Stadium Karachi, ahead of the Sultans’ training session.

David Willey praised the PSL, highlighting the tournament’s intensity, depth of talent, and fiercely competitive cricket as standout factors that, in his view, elevate it above other franchise leagues.

With the Indian Premier League (IPL) also running during the same window, Willey’s comments quickly made headlines.

“PSL and IPL are happening at the same time, but I feel more excited about playing in the Pakistan League,” Willey remarked, underlining the growing reputation of the PSL on the global T20 circuit.

The Englishman is not alone in sharing these sentiments. Zimbabwe’s premier all-rounder Sikandar Raza recently made similar remarks, highlighting the league’s continued popularity among players despite the proliferation of T20 franchise cricket.

David Willey, who joins Multan Sultans as one of their key overseas signings, also said he is eager to contribute to the team’s title push in PSL 10.

“I’m hopeful the 10th season will bring thrilling contests. I’ll try to play good cricket and contribute as much as I can for the team,” Willey said, adding that he was looking forward to helping Multan Sultans go all the way.

His experience, both with the ball and as a handy lower-order batter, will be crucial for Multan as they look to reclaim the PSL trophy they last lifted in 2021, despite making the final in three previous seasons.

The much-anticipated PSL 2025 season is set to get underway on April 11, with Multan Sultans playing their first game on April 12 in Karachi against the Kings, which is expected to be a spicy contest given the off-field drama between the two team owners.

The final is scheduled for May 18 at the iconic Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, where a new chapter of PSL history will be written — and David Willey is determined to be part of it.
