NADRA Counters at Post Offices Reportedly Closed Across Pakistan

The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has reportedly shut down all identity card-related services at General Post Offices (GPOs) across Pakistan.

The decision reportedly comes after three years of operations, citing low public engagement and limited awareness, according to Express News.

The initiative, launched in collaboration with Pakistan Post, was intended to make CNIC services such as renewals, address changes, and marital status updates more accessible.

However, NADRA has now ordered the closure of all 83 service counters in major cities, including 10 in Karachi alone.

Staff have been instructed to return equipment and deposit collected fees, while ready CNICs must be delivered to applicants before counters are dismantled.

According to Express News, a NADRA spokesperson confirmed that the equipment will be shifted to union councils in the next fiscal year to enhance local service delivery.

Despite the program’s aim to reduce congestion at NADRA centers, officials admitted it failed to attract users due to poor public outreach. Planned awareness campaigns never took off, and many citizens remained unaware that such services were available at GPOs.

The decision marks an early end to a 10-year agreement between NADRA and Pakistan Post, closing a chapter that never reached its full potential.
