The Punjab government has removed official price controls on chicken across the province, allowing poultry traders to set their own rates following Eidul Fitr. Previously, chicken meat was being sold at Rs. 595 per kilogram under regulated pricing.
However, a government notification dated April 4, 2025, confirmed the change in policy. The order—issued by the Director General (Research), Provincial Controller General Prices—was sent to all deputy commissioners and district-level price controllers.
The directive states that, based on a decision made during the sixth meeting of the Price Control Council under the Punjab Price Control of Essential Commodities Act 2024, the province will now only notify the rate of live chickens. Rates for chicken meat will no longer be officially set or monitored by the government.
As a result, poultry sellers are now independently determining prices for chicken meat, a shift that has sparked frustration among consumers.
Following the deregulation, several citizens voiced concerns and called for the restoration of regulated pricing to prevent further price hikes. Many have urged the government to enforce market discipline and protect buyers from potential exploitation.

They govt was defeated again . Private can now do what they want .
More price increase
Even chicken has become unaffordable. This is pathetic.
And they targeted net metering consumers but can’t even help determine chicken prices .
What a joke this nation is.
And they brag about uniting the nation against enemies . 😂
You cannot even check Simple chickens prices. So much for unity.
Another failure
Can’t regulate electricity prices
Can’t regulate car prices
Can’t regulate internet issues
Can’t solve security issues
Can’t solve money issues subbed to scams
Can’t solve issues in trade
But jails people when they criticize. This is why other nations laugh at you
Well said
Market should set the prices. This is how competition sets the price. If one person lowers his price to increase his sale, others will follow. Everyone wants to sell their product more than the other. In other scenario, the association was working together against the government. Now it’s free for all!
Will chicken cartel allow competition, owned and controlled by few there is simply no chance competition will theive
So true!
the good for nothing officially disowning everything.
In whole month of Ramadan we bought chicken meat at the rate of 750/kg instead of 595
Simply ridiculous. The government claims to provide relief to the masses and claims that prices of food commodities have decreased.
But this move by the government, clearly shows that the fact is other way round. Now chicken traders will be free to implement their own rates which will be definitely higher than actual prices. Chicken prices will become uncontrolled and more misery for public.
Shame on government that they can’t control prices. Chicken was already being sold on rates higher than government’s rate, for months now government has bowed down before chicken mafia.
Govt. Once again dodged the public and extend support to poultry mafia. How can meat price would be controlled if live chicken is priced at higher side?
سب دی ماں آگئی اے۔ او سب دی ماں آگئی اے۔ مرغی تک وی مکا گئی اے
What the fuck. Pehly b tw wo khud karty thy ab again wo firoon ban jyn gy ya tw gov official k poultry farm hein jo awaam ko lot rhy kuch shram kro kuch haya kro
These family politicians took over all the basic needs of the nation as their business and playing now till the big hand is protecting them. The only solution is to boycott such products
If punjab govt want to relief they should relief poultry farmers not to shopkeepers.
What kind of efforts do by shopkeepers?
Poultry Farmer face all problems, hurdles, tough times, salaries, management, electricity bills, etc. Government should relief only poultry farmers not to shopkeepers.
All you here Eid Al adha is approaching chicken prices will go down normally as always on these days once went down and there is no price regulatory on it will be very difficult to bring prices back to 800 price range again
The chicken traders must be very very happy to set there own rates. They should do the same with meat and make public life more miserable.
