Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) will soon begin direct international flights to Uzbekistan under the directives of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
The move is part of a broader initiative to boost tourism and trade links between the two countries, with private airlines also expected to play a role.
The announcement came during a meeting between Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production Haroon Akhtar Khan and Uzbekistan’s Minister for Tourism, Umid Shadiev. Uzbek Ambassador to Pakistan Alisher Tukhtaev also attended the meeting.
Both sides discussed opportunities for cooperation in tourism and cultural exchange. Haroon Akhtar Khan said Pakistan is ready to work closely with Uzbekistan to enhance tourism ties and preserve shared cultural heritage.
He noted that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is focused on launching major initiatives in tourism, heritage, and people-to-people connections.
“The time has come to turn our focus to Central Asia, a region rich in economic and cultural potential,” Khan added.
Minister Shadiev welcomed the deepening ties and pointed out that multiple MoUs have already been signed. He also highlighted the need to support citizens of both nations through mutual cooperation.
