Pakistan Defender Khurshid Alam Joins Renowned South Asian Football Club

Former Pakistan Under-19 national team defender Khurshid Alam has signed with Thimphu City FC, a prominent club in the Bhutan Premier League. The transfer, announced on April 15, 2025, marks a new chapter for Alam, who reunites with his former Pakistan U19 manager, Shadab Iftikhar, and national team midfielder Alamgir Ghazi at the Bhutanese club.

Alam, known for his robust defending and tactical awareness, emerged as a promising talent during his time with the Pakistan U19 squad. His move to Thimphu City FC follows a growing trend of Pakistani players seeking opportunities abroad to enhance their careers. The club, a dominant force in Bhutanese football, is renowned for its competitive ethos and consistent success in the Premier League.

Shadab Iftikhar, who assumed the managerial role at Thimphu City in March 2025 after a stint with Wigan Athletic, brings a wealth of international experience, having coached in Mongolia, Samoa, and Pakistan. His familiarity with Alam’s playing style is expected to facilitate a seamless integration into the squad. Meanwhile, Alamgir Ghazi, a dynamic midfielder celebrated for his vision and work rate, joined Thimphu City earlier in April, further strengthening the team’s midfield.

This transfer underscores the increasing global footprint of Pakistani footballers, offering Alam a platform to showcase his skills in a competitive league. Thimphu City FC’s acquisition of Khurshid Alam is anticipated to bolster their defensive line as they aim for another successful campaign in the Bhutan Premier League.
