Windscreen Prices in Islamabad and Rawalpindi Record Shocking Increase After Destructive Hailstorm

A sudden hailstorm that swept through Islamabad and Rawalpindi earlier this week has caused significant damage to vehicles, leading to a surge in demand for auto glass and a rapid spike in prices.

The storm, which struck with little warning, left many vehicles across the city with broken windshields, dented roofs, and shattered mirrors. As a result, car owners have been scrambling to find replacement parts, only to discover that supplies have dried up in major auto markets.

According to shopkeepers in Rawalpindi, they’ve run out of standard windscreens. Furthermore, their prices have also witnessed a massive increase.

A windshield that usually cost Rs. 15,000 is now being sold for as high as Rs. 35,000 — if available at all. Smaller glass components, once sold for Rs. 100–200, are now priced up to Rs. 1,000.

Market sources revealed that shops have experienced an unusually high volume of customers since the storm, far exceeding normal traffic. Many outlets say they’ve run out of stock, and suppliers have temporarily stopped accepting new orders due to supply chain pressure.

Traders in Saddar noted that only windshields for rare or luxury vehicles are still available — and their prices have increased by Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 15,000 in recent days.
