Islamabad United captain Shadab Khan staunchly defended the Pakistan Super League (PSL 2025) during the post-match press conference following his team’s six-wicket victory over Karachi Kings in PSL 2025.
When questioned about whether the PSL benefits or harms Pakistani cricket, given some players’ struggles in international matches despite strong PSL performances, Shadab offered a thoughtful response.
“Your best local talent plays in the PSL. That means those who don’t perform or aren’t even part of PSL are considered even lower in standard. So how can you judge fairly? As a nation, we’re too judgmental; this is something we need to overcome,” Shadab stated, emphasizing the league’s role in showcasing top domestic talent and the need for a more balanced perspective on player performances.
Islamabad United’s comfortable win at the National Bank Stadium underscored their dominance in the tournament. Chasing 129, the three-time champions of PSL reached the target in 17.1 overs, with Shadab leading by example with a composed 47 off 40 balls.
Earlier, Karachi Kings struggled to 128/7, with Tim Seifert’s 30 being their highest score. Islamabad’s bowlers, including Shadab (2-17), Imad Wasim (1-17), and Naseem Shah (2-29), restricted the hosts effectively. Sahibzada Farhan’s quick 30 off 18 and Azam Khan’s steady 31 ensured a smooth chase for United.
