The Sindh Finance Department has released a hefty amount of Rs. 526.6 million for the purchase of new vehicles for all Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners (DCs) across the province, according to a report by Dawn News.
As per the details, 6 Commissioners and 29 Deputy Commissioners will receive new official vehicles under this plan. However, the district of Keamari has been excluded from the list.
Each Commissioner will be allotted a vehicle worth Rs. 18 million, while each Deputy Commissioner will receive a car valued at Rs. 14.4 million. The funds have already been transferred to the vehicle supplier company following cabinet approval and audit clearance, officials confirmed.
This development comes months after the Sindh government faced public criticism in September 2024 for approving the purchase of 138 luxury double-cabin vehicles for Assistant Commissioners across the province.
At the time, sources said Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah approved the summary just before leaving for a U.S. visit. The approval came as the government faced financial constraints and opted not to start new development projects under the 2024–25 Annual Development Programme.
