The Indian media’s relentless propaganda machine has once again twisted facts, this time dragging their own star athlete, Neeraj Chopra, for inviting Arshad Nadeem to the Neeraj Classic tournament in India.
The truth, however, is that the Pakistani Olympic gold medalist had already declined the invitation long before any such drama unfolded.
Arshad Nadeem, who has been focusing on the upcoming Asian Championship, respectfully declined Chopra’s invitation well in advance. His decision had nothing to do with the recent wave of hostility in India. Neeraj Chopra faced severe backlash, including death threats from Indian radicals, simply for reaching out to Nadeem.
In a statement released on Thursday, the Indian javelin star defended himself, saying, “I usually am a man of few words, but that doesn’t mean I will not speak up against what I think is wrong… There has been so much talk about my decision to invite Arshad Nadeem to compete in the Neeraj Chopra Classic, and most of it has been hate and abuse… I have carried my country with pride for so many years now, and so it hurts to see my integrity being questioned.”
He further emphasized that his “country and its interests will always come first” and expressed confidence that “justice will be served.”
The Indian media, conveniently ignoring Nadeem’s prior refusal, has spun a narrative that Chopra withdrew the invitation due to pressure.
