The federal government has approved the construction of the Tunnel Boring Project, which is estimated to cost Rs 49 billion, as reported by the 24News channel on Saturday.
Sources indicate that the project was initially presented to the Central Development Working Party (CDWP). Following CDWP’s approval, it was sent to the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) for final clearance.
Securing approval from the CDWP was challenging before moving forward to ECNEC’s endorsement.
The project involves the installation of a major sewerage line using advanced technology, stretching from Larex Colony to Gulshan-e-Ravi.
Funding for this large-scale initiative will be provided by the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) under a soft loan arrangement.
The sewerage line will run from Larex Colony, passing through Shima Pahari, Queens Road, the Punjab Assembly, AG Office, Chauburji, Railway Colony, Sham Nagar, and ending at the Gulshan-e-Ravi Disposal Station.
Another route will pass through Gulberg, Zafar Ali Road, Shadman, LOS, and Samanabad, ultimately connecting to Gulshan-e-Ravi.
Spanning a total length of 28 kilometers, the project is designed to avoid disturbing existing infrastructure, with no new roads needing construction.
Before the commencement of work, WASA secured approval for the PC-1 phase and collaborated with a foreign company for project design and feasibility studies.

Lahore keeps getting bigger and better!
We love you Mian sahib.
These small projects are the domain of city governments, not federal government. Misplaced priorities and resources.
There should be some focus from Lahore to Multan as well.
South Punjab areas lack basic education and primary health facilities while federal government wasting money on waste management.
