An Indian Border Security Force (BSF) soldier has remained in Pakistan Rangers’ custody for over 80 hours after crossing into Pakistani territory near Ferozepur, Punjab.
The soldier, identified as Pranam Kumar Sha from BSF’s 182nd Battalion, reportedly entered Pakistan while armed and in full uniform during his duty near the border fence.
Despite repeated Indian requests, including three flag meetings and claims that the soldier crossed over seeking shade, Pakistan has refused immediate repatriation, insisting that investigations are ongoing.
The incident comes at a time of heightened tensions between the two countries following the recent attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, for which India has blamed Pakistan without evidence.
Meanwhile, BSF units have been placed on high alert along the Indian border, and the soldier’s family in West Bengal is pleading with authorities for his safe return. India has again requested another flag meeting, but Pakistan maintains that any decision will follow a thorough investigation and legal procedure.
