Toyota has officially unveiled the production version of its bZ7 all-electric sedan at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show, marking a significant step forward in its electric vehicle lineup in China.
Developed through a joint venture with GAC-Toyota, the bZ7 is the first model from this partnership to feature Huawei’s HarmonyOS cockpit system, a technology tailored specifically for the Chinese market by the Regional-Chief Engineer team.
The Toyota bZ7 concept first appeared at the 2024 Guangzhou Auto Show, but the version displayed at the Shanghai Auto Show represents the finalized production model. This transition highlights Toyota’s commitment to refining its designs to meet local consumer expectations.
The Toyota bZ7 features a sleek, closed-off front fascia complemented by slender C-shaped headlights that span the width of the car. A lidar sensor positioned on the roof suggests that the sedan will feature advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS). Huawei may also incorporate its ADS driving system, given the vehicle’s HarmonyOS integration.
The car features a full-width taillight design, a high-mounted brake light, and a small rear wing at the rear, adding a sporty touch. The side profile reveals a fastback-style roofline that flows seamlessly into the rear wing. Semi-hidden door handles and large 21-inch multi-spoke wheels complete the look. In contrast to the earlier concept, the production model has replaced the digital mirrors with conventional side mirrors and now features traditional door handles.
Inside, the Toyota bZ7 showcases a modern layout with ambient lighting throughout the cabin. The dashboard includes a floating central touchscreen, an embedded digital instrument cluster, and a three-spoke steering wheel. Wireless charging pads are integrated into the center console for added convenience. A panoramic sunroof provides an open and airy feel to the cabin.
Toyota has not yet disclosed the official powertrain specifications for the bZ7. The vehicle is expected to make further announcements later this year as it nears its official market launch.
The debut of the bZ7 comes amid strong performance for GAC-Toyota. In the first quarter of 2025, the joint venture recorded sales of 171,477 vehicles, with 66,066 units sold in March alone, reflecting a 19.3% increase year-over-year. In addition to the new bZ7, GAC-Toyota currently offers the bZ3X and bZ4X models in the Chinese market under its bZ electric series.
