Multan Sultans owner Ali Tareen took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his concerns about the Pakistan Super League (PSL 2025) season clashing with the Indian Premier League (IPL) schedule.
In his tweet, he highlighted how the PSL has benefited from the presence of international stars over the past decade, mentioning players like Darren Sammy, Shane Watson, Colin Munro, and Rilee Rossouw, who have played key roles in building the league’s reputation.
Ali Tareen questioned whether the PSL can continue to attract players of such calibre if the scheduling conflict with the IPL continues. He pointed out that many top performers are likely to choose the IPL after a season or two, making it difficult for the PSL to retain its star power.
He also admitted that while there was initial support for the current schedule, he is now reconsidering its effectiveness, especially given the challenges of playing day matches in extreme heat. Tareen suggested that it might be time to rethink the PSL’s timing to ensure the league remains competitive and attractive for international players.
However, he also noted that moving the PSL to the winter months would create new challenges, as it would then clash with other major leagues like the ILT20 and SAT20, as well as the home cricket seasons in Australia and New Zealand.
