The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is moving forward with plans to develop a major residential-cum-commercial zone named Jinnah Square Downtown, covering 5,400 kanal along Srinagar Highway and Murree Road.
The project will stretch from the One Constitution building to near the Bhara Kahu Bypass. It will feature plots for hotels, apartments, a hospital, commercial zones, and recreational spaces. About 40% of the area will be built-up, while 60% will remain green, allocated for parks and roads.
The location, situated between Rawal Dam and the Margalla Hills, is seen as highly attractive for investors. CDA officials believe the project could generate trillions of rupees over the next 20 years.
The authority already holds over 90% of the required land, with only a portion of Malpur still under adverse possession. The proposal will be submitted to the federal cabinet via the Ministry of Interior for final approval.
CDA Chairman Mohammad Ali Randhawa initiated the idea during site visits, where he identified large vacant plots. If approved, international consultants will be hired for the project’s planning and execution.
Meanwhile, the underpass project on Murree Road is also underway and is expected to be completed by the end of May, providing a direct route to Srinagar Highway and easing traffic congestion.

D vestation of Islamabad already started by cutting hundrads of trees
cda should build many water treatment plants. everyone is pumping water from ground . water will finish in few years
Islamabad is beautiful because of these green areas if they finish these green areas there will be no difference in Islamabad and other cities without any planning of water supplies and storages.
We have already destroyed Islamabad. After these green areas Islamabad will not be liveable.
Govt should focus on pollution which is already a problem in Islamabad.
“Portion of Malpur still under adverse possession.” Government is the biggest qabza mafia! they want to take over Malpur land when they don’t have ANY RIGHT to do that! Plus deforestation has been done since last 3 years along Murree Road, no one said a word about it! :(
That’s national park territory, how can it be a downtown and Monal be illegal (although Monal is also now in a leopard reserve)
They are out to destroy whatever is left of the greenery in Islamabad
This is height of avarice.
Park View City,CDA-DHA Margalla r two glaring examples of deforestation.Aik Monal destroy Ker k tens of hundreds Monal banaey ja rahey heyn.
Sure eeF the Greenery more in the name of development.
Who needs to breathe fresh air in this day and age, right??
