Samsung’s latest One UI 7 update, based on Android 15, has started rolling out to the Galaxy S23 series — but some users are experiencing problems with it. Numerous reports have emerged on platforms like Reddit and Samsung’s forums, mentioning increased battery drain following the update.
One UI 7, which includes a redesigned interface and new Galaxy AI tools such as Audio Eraser, faced a rocky initial release. Samsung briefly paused the rollout due to bugs before resuming it. Now, Galaxy S23, S23+, and S23 Ultra users are noticing shortened battery life, causing frustration in the community.
One Reddit user reported having to charge their Galaxy S23 multiple times a day, even with light usage consisting mainly of Reddit browsing and YouTube videos.
Mixed User Experiences
Not all users are encountering the issue. Some Galaxy S23 owners report no noticeable battery drain, and a few even claim improved battery performance compared to the previous One UI 6 version. These discrepancies have led to speculation about underlying causes.
Temporary Problem?
Battery drain and occasional heating issues are not uncommon following major Android updates. Experts and tech forums suggest that Android’s battery optimization system resets after such updates. This means the phone needs time to relearn user behavior, including app usage and screen activity, to optimize performance again.
According to SamMobile, this learning phase can take several days to a few weeks, after which battery performance may normalize. Users are advised to wait through this period before concluding long-term performance issues.
Will Battery Performance Normalize?
Some users question why a year-old flagship needs to relearn usage patterns from scratch after each major software upgrade. Still, such a system reset has been part of Android’s design for years.
Whether the Galaxy S23 lineup will return to its previous battery efficiency after a stabilization period remains to be seen.
