Residents of Rawalpindi and Islamabad are urging Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to intervene and bring regulation to the fee structures of private educational institutions. Parents argue that these schools are exploiting families financially without proper oversight.
They highlight that enrolling children in private institutions has become nearly impossible for average-income households due to a wide array of charges, ranging from admission and security fees to monthly tuition, lab, examination, maintenance, health charges, ID issuance, and even grade-level change costs. Many parents blame the lack of government regulation for allowing schools to act unchecked.
“While some institutions skip admission fees, their monthly dues are unreasonably high,” said one parent. At the same time, gaining access to federal government schools is difficult, and many believe the quality of education in Punjab’s public schools is unsatisfactory.
The Private School Parents Association, supported by civil society activists, has organized protests, demanding a transparent and enforceable system to oversee school fee structures and prevent financial exploitation.
“Parents are treated like ATMs,” said Tasleem Satti, whose daughter attends a private school. She criticized the requirement to buy costly uniforms and textbooks exclusively from school-approved outlets. According to her, the Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority (PEIRA) has failed to take meaningful action, and complaints to the Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) have yielded no results.
Another parent, Asma Saeed, voiced similar frustration, accusing school owners of unjustified annual fee hikes. “They operate like a cartel,” she said, emphasizing the undue burden placed on families through arbitrary charges for books and supplies.
Concerns have also been raised about a well-known private college demanding early payments for the next academic session before current-year exams have even concluded or roll numbers issued. This move has caused distress among parents who feel forced to pay in advance without confirmation of their children’s academic status. With few alternatives and no mid-year transfer options, families feel trapped.
Parents have outlined a series of demands for reform, including the reduction and regulation of monthly tuition fees, a clear explanation of annual charges, freedom to purchase uniforms and supplies from vendors of their choice, elimination of hidden costs, and flexible fee payment options such as cheques, credit cards, and pay orders.
While some school representatives acknowledged the rising concerns, they also pointed to the financial pressures of operating educational institutions. “Managing a school comes with its own set of challenges, and we recognize that affordability is a growing issue for families,” said one administrator.
Despite these acknowledgments, many parents remain unconvinced. They continue to ask: If neither public nor private institutions offer accessible and quality education, where can we send our children?

Government and private schools should be bounded to apply same Curriculum & uniforms, so the difference between the people can be removed.
Private Schools in Sindh and specially in Karachi have also become slaughter houses for Parents. They are blackmailing parents and using them as ATM. Sindh Govt and Regulatory Authorities have failed to check n control them.

Govt should also notice on annually increments on fee structure which may vary from 1000 to 5000 on every year whereas our incomes not increases annually as such
Not only parents in Islamabad and pindi faces problems but also parents in Abbottabad suffered alot Private education business now which is one of the best business exploited parents badly
I pay Rs 35000 per month for two daughters to get better education and work so hard to pay this amount. It’s humble request to take action to make better education system.
There are either two ways.
1. Parent should enrolled at school where fee charge is low like around 4000 to 7000 Rs per month. And at evening, they should focus on children and teach them from their own. If parent is not highly educated then they must bear high fee. Do this till 8 class. During matric, send your kid to coaching centre for matric study this is cheap alternate and privately register for matric inter.
2. Parent must work harder and earn more so they may not worried about fees.

Same for the salary and employe rights of teachers in private schools. They violated labour laws in schools. Like deductions made on very little things burden us alot in art work with pictures , give us a lot of pressure with many other task other than classwork . Even sometimes its 4 o clock still work wasn’t completed.
They should also take an action on summer vacation fees that private school take every year.
Private schools charge for summer vacations as well, which is understandable that they need to pay the staff. But charge half of the fee as students don’t use the school facility during those days. Even parents should be given some leverage during summer vacations.

Govt should take action against private school who is demanding advance fee for June and July months too.private school charge extra money every month .one month they said extra money for A.c charges. Next month they demand extra money for paper funds.there is no quality education

Schools are authorized to increase fee by 5% only but schools are forcibly increase fee by 10% or even more :( and we don’t have any option left but to accept their robbery.
These private schools in lahore are asking us to pay for summer vacations aswell during the months from June – August. Which is totally unfair. If our children are to attend summer camp, in that case its understandable. Why are we we paying in full for summer vacations? When will this system be corrected?
My daughter fee 16000 and son is 18000 … and transport fee is 8500…it is just a fee… Other expenses like food,cloth, medical , refreshments how we can manage?? Yes , they are increasing it at very high pace. Our fee (bro,sis and me) is collectively 40k , and with transport it’s 55-60k , father salary is 150k , PM SHAHBAZ Sharif must n must overview it and give our rights to us.

Whether it’s private or public the quality of education is garbage as the whole system of education is garbage, with no intention of actually teaching anything worth while, when some thing even less then decent does come up it’s by some coincidence otherwise schools don’t equip kids with practical skills, knowledge or any character. Honestly learning yourself using the internet is the best way to build skill, but you should know the method of learning. Where you would only require some tutor type person to identify and fix mistakes. Students should have say in the things they do and learn. Hopefully I changed someone’s mind.
