In a high-level meeting chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz at the School Education Department, officials reported that more than 11,000 government schools across the province have been successfully outsourced to improve educational outcomes.
The Chief Minister was also informed that 1.1 million previously out-of-school children have now been enrolled under the Punjab Education Foundation’s outreach programs.
To accelerate development in the sector, Maryam Nawaz directed School Management Councils to utilize Rs. 10 billion in funding to improve school facilities within 90 days.
She also ordered the construction of new classrooms in all schools within one year, and instructed that urgent repairs be carried out on 580 severely dilapidated buildings and 2,770 structures deemed unsafe.
Stressing the need to modernize the education system, the Chief Minister set a target to train 500,000 students in spoken English through certified English language trainers. She also called for the expansion of the school meal program to additional districts and tehsils where child malnutrition rates are high.
Maryam Nawaz announced plans to establish Nawaz Sharif Schools of Eminence for both boys and girls in every district, and set a five-year goal to upgrade 1,750 schools across Punjab.
Officials shared that 250 schools will be upgraded in the next fiscal year, and 300 Tech-Ed schools focusing on technical education will be set up in 10 tehsils as part of this broader educational reform initiative.
