Microsoft has announced the launch of two new Surface devices: the Surface Pro 12 and the Surface Laptop 13. Both devices are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Plus processor and run Windows 11 with integrated Copilot+ PC features.
The Surface Pro 12 is a 2-in-1 device that features a 12-inch LCD touchscreen with a resolution of 2,196 x 1,464 pixels and a 90Hz refresh rate. It maintains the 3:2 aspect ratio that has been a hallmark of the Surface line. The device supports stylus input and includes the Surface Slim Pen, which charges magnetically on the back.
The device comes with a 1080p front-facing camera that supports Windows Hello for facial recognition, and a 10MP rear camera. Like previous models, it features an adjustable kickstand and a detachable keyboard, although the Alcantara finish from earlier versions has been removed. The Surface Pro 12 weighs 686 grams and has a thickness of 7.8 millimeters.
Internally, the Surface Pro 12 is powered by the Snapdragon X Plus chip and comes with 16GB of LPDDR5x RAM and either 256GB or 512GB of storage. It is fanless and relies on passive cooling. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4. The device includes two USB-C ports that support USB 3.2 and DisplayPort 1.4a standards. Microsoft has removed the proprietary Surface Connect charging port.
Microsoft claims the device can provide up to 12 hours of battery life during web browsing and up to 16 hours for local video playback. The device is available in Platinum, Violet, and Ocean colors, with pricing starting at $800 in the United States.
The Surface Laptop 13 is the most compact entry in the Surface Laptop family. It comes with a 13-inch LCD display offering a resolution of 1,920 x 1,280 pixels, a 3:2 aspect ratio, and a 60Hz refresh rate. The laptop includes a 1080p front-facing camera with Windows Hello support.
Like the Surface Pro 12, the Surface Laptop 13 is powered by the Snapdragon X Plus processor. It is paired with 16GB of LPDDR5x RAM and comes with either 256GB or 512GB of storage. The chassis is made from aluminum, and the device weighs approximately 1.22 kilograms.
In terms of connectivity, the laptop includes one USB-A 3.1 port, two USB-C ports supporting USB 4 and DisplayPort 1.4a, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. It also supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4.
Microsoft claims that the Surface Laptop 13 offers up to 16 hours of battery life for web browsing and up to 23 hours of local video playback. The laptop is available in Ocean, Violet, and Platinum color options, with pricing starting at $900. Deliveries are also scheduled for May 20.
