UAE Launches 6-Month Entry Visa for Specific Individuals

The UAE’s Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) has started accepting applications from eligible individuals currently outside the country for a 180-day multiple-entry visa. This initiative is designed to help applicants complete the required procedures to obtain the UAE’s new long-term Blue Residency Visa.

What is the Blue Residency Visa?

The Blue Residency is a 10-year residency permit introduced for individuals who have made outstanding contributions to environmental protection, sustainability, and clean or renewable energy, whether within the UAE or internationally. It builds on the UAE’s broader vision of promoting sustainable development and environmental responsibility.

Who Can Apply?

The Blue Residency is open to the following categories:

  • Influential Environmental Figures: Individuals who have made notable contributions and have had a significant impact in environmental and sustainability-related fields, including climate change and renewable energy.
  • Scientists and Researchers: Experts recognized for their global achievements in relevant fields. Nominations must be approved by the UAE Scientists Council.
  • Investors and Entrepreneurs: Business leaders operating in areas linked to sustainability and green technologies.
  • Environmental Specialists: Professionals working in environmental roles within UAE-based government or private organizations.

Application Process

Eligible candidates can apply through the ICP’s website or mobile application by following these four steps:

  • Fill in personal and supporting information and upload the necessary documents
  • Pay the applicable service fees
  • Submit the completed application
  • Receive a confirmation via email

The process takes around seven minutes to complete online. If all requirements are met, the application is typically processed within one working day.

Documents Required

Applicants will need to provide:

  • A valid passport (with at least six months’ validity)
  • A recent color passport-sized photo
  • Supporting documents proving eligibility for the Blue Residency

Background and First Phase Implementation

The launch follows the announcement made during the World Government Summit in February, where the first group of 20 pioneers in sustainability was awarded the Blue Residency. This included innovators and leaders from environmental and climate-focused sectors.

Part of a Broader Sustainability Vision

The Blue Residency complements the UAE’s existing Golden and Green Visa programs and reflects the nation’s commitment to global sustainability goals. The ICP’s digital system also allows government entities working in environmental and sustainability sectors to submit electronic applications for Blue Residency approvals.

The initiative highlights the UAE’s continued efforts to position itself as a global hub for environmental innovation and sustainable development.
