Pakistan Hacked 1.5 Million Indian Websites After Operation Sindoor

Pakistani hackers have hit over 1.5 million Indian websites following Operation Sindoor. These cyber attacks were performed by a total of 7 Advanced Persistent Threat (APT) groups, which targeted critical infrastructure websites following the Pahalgam terror strike, reports India’s Maharashtra Cyber.

According to Indian media, the success rate of these cyber attacks was quite low, with only 150 attacks proving successful. This means that the failure rate of these attacks was 99.99%, or in other words, the success rate was 0.01%.

The seven hacking groups identified in the report included:

  • APT 36
  • Pakistan Cyber Force
  • Team Insane PK
  • Mysterious Bangladesh
  • Indo Hacks Sec
  • Cyber Group HOAX 1337
  • National Cyber Crew

The report further adds that the cyber attacks not only originated from Pakistan, but also from Bangladesh, Pakistan, the Middle East, and an Indonesian group, said Yashasvi Yadav, the Additional Director General of Police, Maharashtra Cyber.

These attacks did not stop even after Pakistan and India reached an understanding for a ceasefire, with several Indian government websites reporting a barrage of online disruptions from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and the Middle East Region.

Yadav said:

The probe discovered that cyber attacks on (government websites in) India decreased after India-Pakistan ceased hostilities, but not fully stopped. These attacks continue from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Morocco, and Middle Eastern countries.

The hackers behind these attacks used multiple methods to disrupt Indian websites, such as Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks, GPS spoofing, and more. These methods were reportedly used to deface Indian websites, but many of the hacking attempts were thwarted and critical infrastructure in India remained unharmed.
