Pakistan has announced a compact but promising squad for the 2025 Asian Athletics Championships, set to take place in Gumi, South Korea, from May 27 to 31.
Olympic gold medalist Arshad Nadeem is the standout name, leading the charge in the javelin throw. The five-member contingent includes a blend of experience and emerging talent across track and field disciplines. Arshad, Pakistan’s biggest athletics star and a former Commonwealth Games gold medallist, will be joined in the javelin throw event by Yasir Sultan, another exciting prospect in the discipline.
In track events, Pakistan will be represented by Shajar Abbas and Mueed Baloch, both competing in the 400m sprints, while Tameen Khan will feature in the women’s 100m sprint. Shajar, widely regarded as the nation’s fastest sprinter, has shown steady improvement over the past year and will be looking to break into the Asian elite.
The Asian Athletics Championships serve as a key continental platform for Pakistani athletes ahead of challenging events. While Arshad Nadeem is already a household name following his success on the international stage, the rest of the squad will aim to use the Gumi meet to enhance their international credentials.
The Pakistan Athletics Federation will also be confident in the selected athletes, whose aim should not just be to participate but to contend.
With South Korea hosting the continent’s finest in Gumi, all eyes will be on whether Arshad Nadeem can once again spearhead Pakistan’s medal hopes and whether the country’s young sprinters can rise to the occasion.
