Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Traffic Pir Muhammad Shah announced plans to ban rickshaws from seven more major roads in Karachi, ARY News reported.
Speaking to the media, DIG Shah said the new restrictions will be rolled out under a modern traffic management strategy aimed at ensuring smoother flow of vehicles and stricter enforcement of traffic laws.
He confirmed that the next phase of the campaign will target an additional seven major roads where rickshaws will be banned, though he did not specify the exact locations.
To support the plan, the Traffic Engineering Bureau—previously dormant—has now been reactivated and separated from the Karachi Development Authority (KDA). Additionally, a new automated e-challan system is set to be introduced next month, enabling more efficient and tech-driven enforcement of traffic regulations.
Meanwhile, Rizwan Irfan, President of the Electronic Dealers Association, voiced concern over ongoing parking problems in the city’s Mobile Market area. He urged city officials to develop new parking spaces around Jahangir Park to ease pressure on surrounding roads.

Ban motor cycle and see the accident ratio dip drastically. Ban them for a minimum of two months and see the results.
Your comments are shameful. Banning is not the solution. instead people should be taught traffic rules and regulations and rules should be implemented strictly.
Some of the decisions regarding traffic are ridiculous..the road leading from bambino cinema has been split in half and made two way of which one way is hardly used and a great bottle neck has formed at the junction at zabunisa St.. another is the barrier placed at the junction at marriot hotel..this has caused a major bottleneck at the junction of khaliquzzaman and the road leading from cantt..and another one at the askari apt junction..instead of finding concrete solutions they are taking arbitrary measures..
So the modern traffic management strategy doesn’t involve development of roads and installing traffic lights in junctions? Interesting…!
why Ban rikshaw only if this city is only for car owners ?
as road belongs to all banning them for one category to favor other is not acceptable as commissioner Karachi imposing rules like we are his colony and he is viceroy

Rickshaw and chinkies openly play on the road whoch were restricted for them in April 2025. These peoplei will never support the law unless they are punished physically. Police has no guts to stop then as they are always busy in their mobile or discussion with their comrade on main intersection. These rickshaw drivers are from the area in pakistan where there is no law and order.
Rickshaw banning is not the solution, how does ladies and poor people will travel in absence of proper and comprehensive Mass Transit in the city
