The National Assembly has passed a resolution to increase the age limit for candidates appearing in the Central Superior Services (CSS) exams.
The resolution, tabled by Member of National Assembly (MNA) Nausheen Iftikhar, called for extending the upper age limit for CSS eligibility to 35 years.
In addition to the age relaxation, the resolution also proposed increasing the number of attempts to five, giving candidates more chances to qualify for the competitive examination.
The resolution was passed with a majority vote in the lower house of Parliament. The timing of the resolution coincides with the recent announcement of the CSS 2024 written exam results by the Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC), which highlighted the exam’s intense competitiveness.
Out of 23,100 applicants, only 15,602 appeared for the written test — and just 395 passed. This marks a success rate of only 2.53%, underscoring the pressure and limited opportunities faced by aspiring civil servants in Pakistan.
