Punjab Approves Nearly 27,000 Posts in Education Department

The Punjab Finance Department has approved the creation of 26,898 posts across 1,961 upgraded and newly constructed public schools, replacing 43,960 abolished posts from previously outsourced schools under the School Education Department.

According to an official notification dated May 16, 2025, the decision is contingent on the condition that there will be no additional financial burden on the provincial government.

The posts will be filled by reallocating existing teaching and support staff from overstaffed to understaffed schools, based on the Student-Teacher Ratio (STR) and available personnel from closed outsourced institutions.

The notification clearly states that no fresh hiring of teachers or support staff will take place. Instead, staff will be rationalized within the existing workforce.

  • Newly Established Schools: 47 primary schools (423 posts), 1 elementary school (19 posts), and 5 high schools (135 posts).
  • School-Based Cadre (SBC): 1,181 schools from elementary to high level (14,172 posts).
  • ADP & SBC Upgrades: 375 primary-to-elementary (5,250 posts), 245 elementary-to-high (2,940 posts), and 107 high-to-higher secondary schools (3,959 posts).
