In a sweeping crackdown to improve road safety, Karachi authorities have seized thousands of vehicles for traffic violations following orders from Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah.
Between May 9 and 16, the Karachi Traffic Police impounded 43,852 motorcycles, mostly due to riders not wearing helmets. Alongside this, 3,951 vehicles were seized for having fancy number plates or tinted windows, while 685 heavy and light vehicles were taken off the road for violating various traffic laws.
Authorities also cracked down on vehicle safety. The traffic police recommended the cancellation of registration for 25 unfit vehicles, while 663 others may face temporary registration suspension. Additionally, 22 vehicles were formally challaned for more serious offenses.
A separate campaign targeting Qingqi and motorcycle rickshaws operating on 11 banned model roads led to 434 rickshaws being seized and 194 FIRs filed for reckless driving and speeding. Twenty-five rickshaws were confiscated for lacking registration.
Law enforcement also took action against 377 vehicles equipped with illegal LPG and CNG kits, citing serious safety concerns.
In total, 12,183 tickets were issued as part of the city-wide effort to enforce traffic rules and reduce road accidents.
Good action but it seems only a pinch of salt in sea. Sindh government should take more concrete steps like safe city cameras installed by Punjab government.
All are good but CM, & IG traffic are not visited the area from Tower to Guru Mander, no any traffic signal plz. Only one police man cover & other are busy to collect money on mid of roads.
