Islamabad Police Launches Paid ‘Extra Protocol’ Service for Citizens

Islamabad Police has rolled out a new paid service called “Extra Protocol” to speed up the driving license process for applicants. For a fee of Rs. 2,000, applicants receive special treatment from the entrance of the Islamabad Traffic Police Office until they receive their license — all within one hour.

The service has drawn mixed reactions. While some appreciate the fast processing, others criticize it as promoting a VIP culture where those who can pay get quicker access.

This comes after a major fee hike in May 2024. The standard license fee rose to Rs. 2,400, and several new charges were introduced. These include Rs. 200 for medical, Rs. 200 for fast-track processing, Rs. 200–500 for road tests depending on vehicle type, and Rs. 200 for a road safety session.

Additionally, a Rs. 1,000 no-objection certificate fee is now required for those holding licenses from outside Islamabad.

The capital police also charge for other services: Rs. 1,000 for character certificates and verification, Rs. 1,500 for vehicle checks, and Rs. 3,500 for forensic verification.

In a related move, the office of the inspector general has taken control of all financial collections after reports of irregularities in service fees.

  • Govt charging people exuberant amount for licence. But please don’t say “Issue Licence” should use “Selling Licence”.
