2025 Ballon d’Or Dates Revealed

The 69th edition of the Ballon d’Or will be held on Monday, 22 September 2025, at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris. The most recognised event in footballing circles is organised by UEFA and Groupe Amaury, the parent company of France Football and L’Équipe.

The Ballon d’Or is considered football’s most respected individual award and has been given every year since 1956 to the best male player in the world. Manchester City and Spain’s Rodri is the latest holder of the award.

In recent years, the awards have expanded to recognise women’s football and other areas of excellence in the sport, with Aitana Bonmatí of Spain and FC Barcelona the current holder.

The 2025 Ballon d’Or ceremony will feature a record number of 14 awards, covering both men’s and women’s football:

  • Ballon d’Or (Men and Women) – for the best player in the world
  • Kopa Trophy (Men and Women) – for the best young player (under 21)
  • Yashin Trophy (Men and Women) – for the best goalkeeper
  • Gerd Müller Trophy (Men and Women) – for the top goal scorer
  • Johan Cruyff Trophy (Men and Women) – for the best coach
  • Club of the Year (Men and Women) – for the most successful football club
  • Sócrates Award – for social and charity work by a footballer

This is the first time many of these categories will have separate men’s and women’s versions, showing the organisers’ commitment to equality in football.

The list of nominees will be revealed in early August, but some early favorites for the Men’s Ballon d’Or include Kylian Mbappé and Lamine Yamal, while Aitana Bonmatí and Alexia Putellas are strong contenders on the women’s side.

As always, fans around the world will be watching closely to see who will be crowned the best in football this year.
