The Sindh government has declared Wednesday, May 28, 2025, a public holiday across the province in observance of Youm-e-Takbeer, the day Pakistan conducted its first nuclear tests in 1998.
A notification issued on Monday confirmed that all government offices under the Sindh administration will remain closed on May 28. Schools across the province will also remain shut for the day.
Normal operations in both government offices and educational institutions will resume on Thursday, May 29.
In line with the observance, the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) has also announced that trading will remain suspended on May 28. “All concerned are hereby informed that Pakistan Stock Exchange Limited will remain closed on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, being public holiday declared by the Government of Pakistan on the occasion of Youm-e-Takbeer,” the PSX said in a statement.
Earlier this year, the federal government released a list of public holidays for 2025, which includes May 28 as a nationwide holiday. According to the Cabinet Division’s notification, a total of 16 public holidays were announced, with Youm-e-Takbeer among the significant days.
