Punjab to Develop New Sports Facilities

In a bold push to revamp its sporting landscape, the Punjab government has announced 175 new development schemes under the Annual Development Programme (ADP) 2025–26, setting the stage for one of the most ambitious sports facilities infrastructure drives in Pakistan’s recent history.

At the heart of this initiative is the Nishtar Park Sports Complex, which is set for a major overhaul. The iconic Lahore venue will be upgraded to modern standards, positioning it as a central hub for elite and grassroots sport in the province.

The plan also features several new purpose-built sports facilities in Punjab. Among them are an Archery Sports Complex, a dedicated Table Tennis Arena, and a unique Board Games Sports Complex, reflecting a more inclusive approach to sports development. In a significant revival, the long-neglected Velodrome will be fully restored, while spectator capacity at Punjab Stadium will be increased to accommodate growing fan interest.

Punjab’s sporting facilities expansion is not limited to Lahore alone. A Baseball Sports Complex will rise in the provincial capital, while Paddle Tennis Courts are set to be developed across key urban centres—Rawalpindi, Multan, and Sialkot. Additional Volleyball Courts and Indoor Sports Complexes are planned across the province, bringing a range of opportunities to youth at the local level.

Underserved regions are also set to benefit. Stadiums in Jampur and Rajanpur will undergo rehabilitation, while new sports complexes will be built in Chichawatni and Dera Ghazi Khan. The historic Bahawalpur Stadium will also see a long-awaited upgrade.

Pakistan is finally turning its attention to providing adequate facilities to local athletes, and this extensive plan reflects a strategic shift in how sports development is viewed in Punjab—not just as recreation, but as a tool for youth engagement, social inclusion, and professional sporting excellence
