Rising Bangladesh Pacer Opts Out of Pakistan Tour

Bangladesh’s preparations for their three-match T20I series against Pakistan have been hit by withdrawals, with young fast bowler Nahid Rana and two members of the support staff opting out of the tour, sources in the local media have confirmed.

Nahid Rana, one of Bangladesh’s promising pace prospects, was named as part of the touring squad set to arrive in Lahore on May 25. However, the 22-year-old has decided against travelling, though official confirmation is awaited from the BCB.

Two unnamed members of Bangladesh’s backroom team have also withdrawn from the trip, adding to the logistical reshuffle ahead of the series. While names remain undisclosed, the BCB is reportedly arranging replacements to ensure smooth operations throughout the tour.

Nahid Rana was one of the international players taking part in this year’s PSL who had to be evacuated due to Pakistan’s war against India—an obvious factor in his decision not to return to Pakistan so soon. He recently made his T20I debut against the UAE and was expected to carry the team’s pace attack in the coming series.

Bangladesh’s captain, Litton Das, had earlier confirmed that the team will do what the BCB decides, but despite the tour going ahead, several members have decided against coming to Pakistan.

The three-match T20I series, part of the international cricket calendar, will be played entirely at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore from May 28 to June 1, under lights. The series marks a key phase in both teams’ buildup to future ICC white-ball events, with both boards viewing the series as an opportunity to test depth and new combinations.

Despite the withdrawals, the tour is still on course. The PCB, which recently had to navigate diplomatic sensitivities to confirm Bangladesh’s visit, remains confident of delivering a safe and competitive series. Bangladesh’s full squad is expected to begin training on May 26, with matches scheduled for May 28, May 30, and June 1.

While Nahid Rana’s absence may alter Bangladesh’s fast-bowling plans, the visitors are still expected to field a balanced side, with experienced campaigners and fresh faces getting opportunities in a high-pressure environment.
