Following a crushing defeat to Quetta Gladiators, Islamabad United will have to regroup and focus on their must-win game against the winner of the 1st Eliminator between Lahore Qalandars and Karachi Kings. However, they will have to do it without one of their star players, Alex Hales. The England batter’s return to Islamabad United has come to an end almost as quickly as it began.
Hales, alongside South Africa’s Rassie van der Dussen, was expected to bolster Islamabad’s campaign. While van der Dussen remains with the team for the crucial final stages, Hales’ stint was limited to just two matches.
He made an immediate impact in his first game back, smashing a blistering 88 off 35 balls against Karachi Kings. His explosive innings helped Islamabad United secure second place in the group stage and a spot in the Qualifier against Quetta Gladiators.
However, Hales’ second outing was less memorable. In the Qualifier play-off at Gaddafi Stadium, he was dismissed for a duck as Islamabad fell short against Quetta. With Islamabad United still in contention for a place in the final, they now face the challenge of progressing without Hales, who has departed the squad.
Taking to social media, Alex Hales thanked Islamabad United and wished his teammates the best for the remainder of the tournament.
