Key Gulf Country Officially Reopens Work Visas for Pakistanis

Kuwait has officially resumed issuing multiple visa categories for Pakistani citizens, marking a major development in bilateral relations and labor cooperation, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Kuwait, Dr. Zaffar Iqbal, confirmed.

Starting in May, Pakistani nationals have begun receiving approvals for work, family visit, dependent, tourist, and commercial visas. The move aims to restore workforce channels and strengthen economic ties between the two countries.

Dr. Iqbal also shared plans to bring 1,200 Pakistani nurses to Kuwait’s healthcare sector. Although the first group of 125 nurses faced delays due to housing issues, efforts are underway to resolve the matter. “We expect their arrival soon,” he stated.

He further revealed that Pakistan and Kuwait are close to finalizing a new labor memorandum of understanding (MoU), with some provisions already being applied.

Highlighting long-standing ties, Dr. Iqbal said over 93,000 Pakistanis live in Kuwait, actively contributing to healthcare, education, and infrastructure. He noted Kuwait’s investments in Pakistan and emphasized opportunities in agriculture, food security, and housing.

The ambassador also praised Kuwait’s diplomatic role and its backing of Pakistan’s recent UN Security Council seat bid. He recalled Pakistan’s military support during the Gulf War, calling the relationship one of shared history and mutual respect.
