Pakistan’s weightlifters continued their impressive run at the Asian Masters Weightlifting Championship in Qatar, adding two more medals to the tally on the second day of the competition.
Veteran lifter Rashid Khan led the charge with a gold medal in the 89kg category in the 50+ age group. Competing against some of Asia’s strongest veteran athletes, Rashid showed his class and strength by lifting a total of 170kg—80kg in the snatch and 90kg in the clean & jerk—to finish on top of the podium.
Adding to Pakistan’s success at the Asian Masters Weightlifting Championship, Abdul Malik earned a bronze medal after lifting a combined 193kg in his event. His 93kg in the snatch was followed by 100kg in the clean & jerk, securing a well-deserved spot among the top three.
With these two medals, Pakistan’s overall count at the championship has risen to three, including two golds and one bronze. Earlier in the tournament, Maqsood Rathore had opened Pakistan’s medal account with a gold medal on the opening day.
The Asian Masters Championship is a prestigious platform for experienced lifters across the continent. Pakistan’s podium finishes in multiple weight categories signal encouraging progress for the country in the Masters division—a category often overlooked in such a niche sport but rich in dedication and passion.
These performances not only reflect the personal achievements of seasoned athletes like Rashid, Abdul Malik, and Maqsood but also underscore the efforts of Pakistan’s weightlifting community to stay active on the international stage.
