Islamabad’s Most Famous Interchange is Finally Getting an Expansion

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has directed the expansion of the Faizabad Interchange project and called for a detailed traffic management plan to support the upgrade.

He issued these instructions during a visit to Faizabad Interchange on Saturday, where he assessed the current flow of traffic and reviewed ongoing infrastructure conditions.

Naqvi emphasized that Faizabad Interchange, a key route linking Rawalpindi with Islamabad, should reflect the capital’s identity. He stressed that anyone entering Islamabad through this point should immediately notice a change in environment and aesthetics.

He ordered the use of all available resources to enhance the visual appeal of the interchange and directed that decorative lighting be installed to further improve its appearance.

The Interior Minister’s visit was part of broader efforts to improve major entry points into the capital, ensuring smoother traffic flow and a more welcoming atmosphere for commuters.

  • Expansion at Faizabad is not required. It will only increase choke points burden at Sohan and I-8. Traffic congestion can only be improved if heavy traffic is given an alternative!

Moreover in a situation where we are at brink of a war, our spending should be focused on improving air defence systems, air to air systems and indigenous weapon development and jet development to give a clear deterrence to our enemy.

  • Dear editor pls check if this news is about Faizabad interchange or Faisalabad interchange… 😂

  • Flow of traffic can improve if the exit for Murree road towards Rap is given before the overhead just like at 9th AVE. Similarly traffic coming from Murree road and IJP going towards Khanna should have a direct ramp instead of the loop coming down. The traffic which has to go to IJP road coming from rawal dam should be given a ramp connecting the murree road to IJP road over the interchange.

  • We need a direct road to IJP for the traffic coming from Rawal Chowk…
And most importantly when are we going to get rid of heavy traffic inside our cities?? IJP has still more heavy vehicles than isb expressway or Kashmir highway… Get your priorities straight Mr. Naqvi. We don’t need bloody decorative lights when our main highways don’t have fully functioning lights!! Clowns…

    • Supported… It is not a checkpost rather a chokepost… Useless people at useless post😡

  • Islamabad entry from T chowk is the worst. Hope to get this resolved soon

  • Good idea as this interchange was ignored from aesthetics.

  • Not Islamabad’s ‘most famous’ but ‘most notorious’ interchange, which has been used by pressure groups and vested interests for sit-ins and protests, causing the common man a great deal of inconvenience. It should be banned by an implementable law to stop the various groups and parties to use the roads and interchanges for their agenda at the cost of public interest.

  • People feel the change just after crossing Faizabad Interchange in the form of dangerous Naka where many people faced damaging accidents specially at night! Mohsin, please continuously dust Jo frequently digging sae Islamabad KO bachao aur senseless underpasses na banao just like most dangerous 9th Avenue and Jinnah Avenue underpass

  • Traffic flow within Islamabad can be improved by disallowing heavy traffic to enter at express highway and for that the only viable option is completion of Firyoun kay zamanay say planned ” Rawalpindi Ring Road”…

  • Very big difference in quality of work in old interchanges and the new ones which means hefty amount of money is going into pockets…
