The Sindh government has launched a major housing initiative to support families displaced by the devastating 2022 floods. Under this program, 2.1 million houses will be provided free of cost to those who lost their homes during the disaster.
Sindh’s Minister for Information and Transport, Sharjeel Inam Memon, announced that this initiative is a response to the widespread destruction caused by the floods, which left millions without shelter. The project, described as one of the largest in the country’s history, is part of the provincial government’s commitment to long-term rehabilitation.
In a significant move towards women’s empowerment, ownership of the new homes will be registered in the names of women, ensuring they hold legal possession and can benefit directly from the reconstruction efforts. This step is intended to enhance both the security and economic independence of women within affected communities.
The initiative reflects the promise made by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to rebuild every home lost during the floods and ensure that no family is left without shelter.
