The Directorate General of Customs Valuation has revised the customs values for the top 12 imported potato chips, setting new brand specific values ranging from $2.45 per kilogram to $5.85 per kilogram under a fresh valuation ruling.
The revised Valuation Ruling No. 2098/2026 replaces the previous ruling issued in April 2024 and will remain in effect until it is amended or withdrawn.
Under the new valuation, Kettle has been assigned the highest customs value at $5.85 per kilogram, followed by Lay’s at $5.50 per kilogram and Pringles at $5.10 per kilogram.
Chizzpa/Master and other unlisted brands have been valued at $4.50 per kilogram, while Hunter’s has been set at $4.45 per kilogram. Ligo, Kracks, and Mister Chips have each been assigned a customs value of $3.10 per kilogram.
Among the lower valuation categories, Mister Potato Chips and Crunchitos/Daffodil have been valued at $2.55 per kilogram, while Poppin received the lowest customs value of $2.45 per kilogram.
The ruling covers 12 categories of potato chip brands imported from all countries under PCT Code 2005.2000, with separate WeBOC classifications assigned to each brand.
According to Customs, the revision was initiated after importers requested an update to the valuation ruling and the inclusion of additional brands. The previous valuation had become outdated and no longer reflected prevailing international market prices.
Before finalizing the new values, the Directorate reviewed import data from the previous 90 days, examined documents submitted by importers, conducted market inquiries, and analyzed brand wise pricing and package weights.
The ruling also states that if the declared transaction value or invoice value of an imported consignment is higher than the customs value specified in the ruling, Customs will assess duties based on the higher value.
For air shipments, the difference between air freight and sea freight will also be added to the assessable customs value.
