Punjab Launches Registration for E-Taxi Project

The Punjab government has officially launched the registration process for its E-Taxi program, an initiative under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s Green & Clean Transport vision.

The pilot project, a collaboration between the Transport and Masstransit Department and the Bank of Punjab, aims to introduce electric taxis in Lahore as a cost-effective, safe, and environmentally friendly solution for urban transportation.

As part of this program, the department has invited Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), their authorized local dealers, distributors, and joint ventures to register electric car models that meet the minimum specifications required for taxi operations.

This will help create a reference list of eligible EVs that comply with safety, performance, and operational standards. Interested entities must submit their applications along with the necessary documentation to the Transport and Mass Transit Department by 11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 24, 2025.

Submissions are to be delivered to the department’s office at 11-A Egerton Road, Lahore. The government will offer a comprehensive financial package to support the adoption of electric vehicles. This includes equity payment assistance, a bank-financed five-year loan, and partial coverage of vehicle registration charges.

Buyers will be allowed to select their vehicles from an approved list. Financing of up to Rs. 6.5 million per vehicle will be provided, with buyers responsible for any excess cost. To assist potential participants, a clarification meeting has been scheduled for Thursday, June 12, 2025, at 2:00 PM in the committee room of the department.
