Donald Trump Imposes Full Travel Ban on 12 Countries

President Donald Trump has signed a new executive order imposing a full travel ban on citizens from 12 countries and restricting entry from seven others.

The countries facing a complete travel ban include Afghanistan, Chad, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Myanmar, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen. In addition to the ban, there will be heightened restrictions for citizens of Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela.

“I must act to protect the national security and national interest of the United States and its people,” President Trump declared in the executive order. The order will take effect at 12:01 a.m. local time in Washington, D.C., on Monday, June 9, 2025.

Visas issued before that date will remain valid and will not be revoked. In a video message released by the White House, President Trump said a recent attack at a rally in Boulder, Colorado underscored the dangers of admitting foreign nationals who, he claimed, are not thoroughly vetted.

He asserted that “millions and millions of these illegals should not be in our country.” The president further stated, “We will not let what happened in Europe happen to America,” emphasizing the need to block migration from countries where U.S. authorities cannot “safely and reliably vet and screen” applicants.

“We will not allow people to enter our country who wish to do us harm,” he added.
