Former Cricketer Namedrops Pakistan’s Next All-format Captain

Pakistan’s T20I captain, Salman Ali Agha, seems to have impressed the PCB higher-ups in his limited time as skipper enough to be handed the reins of the national team in all three formats of the game, at least according to former international Basit Ali.

Taking to social media, Basit tweeted a congratulatory message aimed towards Salman Ali Agha, wishing him well for all three formats, which got the fans talking.

Despite being a regular feature in every format, Salman’s name as a potential leader will come as a surprise to many. Pakistan’s captaincy has been treated as a hot potato since Babar Azam’s departure, but Mohammad Rizwan in ODIs and Shan Masood in Tests were expected to carry on for a while.

The two, however, failed to produce significant results, with Pakistan suffering humiliation in the Champions Trophy under Rizwan and in the World Test Championship under Shan. It was being reported that Saud Shakeel was set to take over the captaincy duties in Tests, but PCB seems to have changed its mind.

Salman Ali Agha, meanwhile, was impressive as captain in the recent series against Bangladesh.

Known for his calmness under pressure, Agha has consistently delivered with both bat and ball for Pakistan, with his maturity on and off the field earning him praise. He also plays his PSL cricket under white-ball coach Mike Hesson, who appears to have a say on the next leader of the team in at least the formats that he leads.

Basit Ali’s prediction puts Salman Ali Agha in the spotlight as the future leader of Pakistan cricket, possibly setting the stage for a new era of stability and success. However, all-format captaincy brings its own set of challenges, and how the all-rounder deals with them will be interesting to see.
