Pakistani professional wrestler Ather Zahid successfully defended his international championship title by defeating Indian contender Samrat Virender at a global wrestling event held in Kathmandu, Nepal, on Eid-ul-Adha.
The 29-year-old Zahid, who was born in Al Ahsa, Saudi Arabia, to Pakistani parents, dedicated his victory to the people of Pakistan. “Although I was away from my home and family during Eid, I dedicated this success to all the people of Pakistan,” he said after the match.
Ather Zahid has quickly risen to prominence as a leading figure in South Asian wrestling. He first captured the international championship in October 2024 by defeating India’s Singham Dubey, also in Kathmandu. Known for his signature move, the Desert Slam, Zahid has become a media sensation in Pakistan, with frequent appearances on national television and a growing fan base on social media.
Zahid’s latest victory further cements his status as a trailblazer in the region’s professional wrestling scene and a source of pride for Pakistani sports fans.
