PSL 11 Likely to Clash With IPL Again

The Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 11 will likely have to stick with its April-May window for the second straight year, putting it in competition with the IPL once more, with plans for PSL 11 in 2026 expected to follow a similar schedule as this year’s edition.

According to journalist Saleem Khaliq, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is of the view that holding the tournament in December, as previously suggested, is no longer a realistic option due to time and logistical constraints.

There had been talk of PSL 11 taking place in the December-January window as Pakistan has no bilateral series scheduled, but with likely additions of two new franchises and competing leagues such as the BBL and the ILT20, the PCB has concluded that December would be too difficult to manage. Instead, the tournament is once again expected to overlap with the IPL.

While going head-to-head with the IPL poses challenges in terms of viewership and overseas player availability, this schedule worked reasonably well during PSL X, with players like David Warner and Kane Williamson coming to Pakistan.

To accommodate PSL 11, Pakistan’s scheduled series with Zimbabwe in April 2026 may now be pushed to a different slot in the international calendar to make room. Discussions are likely to begin between the two boards to find a workable solution, as PCB aims to protect the domestic T20 league’s full window without sacrificing bilateral commitments.

Another key factor in the scheduling puzzle is the possible expansion of the league. If the PCB moves forward with its idea to add two more teams to the existing six, the number of matches in the tournament will rise significantly, possibly by as many as 20 games. That would mean a longer event, requiring up to two more weeks of scheduling, travel, and planning.

While nothing has been officially confirmed yet, the board is expected to make a formal announcement in the coming months, likely after completing internal scheduling and discussions with stakeholders.

One thing is clear: PSL 11 likely won’t be happening in December, and Pakistan cricket fans should once again prepare for a summer of PSL action in April and May 2026, possibly with more teams, more matches, and even bigger competition.
