The Punjab government has approved a development budget of Rs. 110 billion for government schools in the province for the fiscal year 2025-26. The substantial allocation aims to address longstanding issues in 38,000 government schools, focusing on providing missing facilities, upgrading infrastructure, and ensuring basic amenities.
Under the new budget, 50,000 new classrooms will be constructed to tackle the shortage of space, and the lack of furniture in schools will be addressed. Additionally, 72 government schools will be upgraded and transformed into “Schools of Eminence,” setting a new standard for quality education in the province.
The plan also includes the completion of boundary walls and other essential facilities, with all improvements to be carried out under a new model that involves school management councils in the approval process. The government has set a target to provide all basic facilities in schools by December 31, 2025.
Financial assistance has also been approved for A-class employees and teachers at UETK, and scholarships will be awarded to students in government schools to encourage academic achievement.
