Yorkshire Add Experienced Pakistan International Ahead of Key Season Stretch

Yorkshire have announced the signing of Abdullah Shafique, bringing in the Pakistan batter as an overseas player ahead of a crucial stretch in their 2025 campaign. The 25-year-old will be available for Yorkshire’s next two County Championship fixtures, followed by the final four group-stage matches of the Vitality Blast.

Abdullah will join the squad next week, and his first potential outing in England’s revered county scene could come at Trent Bridge against Nottinghamshire. With five Test hundreds across 22 caps, the elegant right-hander is set to bolster Yorkshire’s top order with both experience and flair.

The move follows a strong showing in the Pakistan Super League, where he played a key role in Lahore Qalandars’ title-winning run, scoring 390 runs at an average of 32. His steady 41 in the final underlined his value in high-pressure moments.

Speaking about the move to Yorkshire, Abdullah Shafique said he was thrilled to join one of county cricket’s most storied clubs. “I’m immensely pleased to be afforded this opportunity with Yorkshire, and I’m eager to join up with the team ahead of a big game against Nottinghamshire,”

“There is so much history at this club, and I hope I can contribute on the pitch at what is a very important period of the season for the team.” said Abdullah Shafique ahead of Yorkshire debut.

Yorkshire currently sit 9th in Division 1 of the County Championship and 8th in the North Group of the T20 Blast, meaning Abdullah Shafique has his work cut out for him. The club will be hoping that Shafique’s arrival provides not just runs, but momentum, as they look to make a push across both red-ball and white-ball formats.

Abdullah Shafique becomes the latest Pakistani to try and write his name in English county lore. How this trip pans out for him remains to be seen.
