You’ll No Longer Need CamScanner After This WhatsApp Update

WhatsApp is working on a document scanning feature for Android devices, as revealed in its latest beta update version 2.25.18.29 released through the Google Play Beta Program. The feature, currently under development, is expected to be available in a future release.

This document scanner feature was initially introduced to iOS users earlier this year, allowing them to scan and send documents directly within chats. The Android version appears to be identical, offering users the ability to scan documents using their phone’s camera without needing external apps.

This means you will no longer need apps like CamScanner to scan a document on your phone to share it around.

Two Modes: Manual and Automatic

According to details uncovered in the update, users will be able to select a new “Scan document” option in the file-sharing menu. Once selected, the phone’s camera will open with two capture modes: manual and automatic. Manual mode gives users control over when to take the photo, allowing for precise framing. Automatic mode detects document borders and captures the image without input, making it a faster option.

Converts to PDF Automatically

After capturing the image, WhatsApp will automatically convert it into a PDF file, ready to be sent in chats or groups. The process uses native Android APIs, ensuring all operations occur on the device. Files are shared only when explicitly sent by users and remain protected by WhatsApp’s end-to-end encryption.

Availability

The feature is not yet available for public testing, but its development has been confirmed. WhatsApp plans to roll it out in a future update, with further details expected soon.

  • we can’t trust meta products, the only thing making whatsapp alive in Pakistan is the bundles from Telcos. Once the air shifts and telcos start offering bundles for Signal, Telegram everyone will move from WhatsApp. And we should move to other platform as soon as possible. WhatsApp is not secure and share our data with CIA, Mossad.

    • All this depends on demand and supply.
Because there are a lot of users using WhatsApp, telecos has ZERO incentive to offer bundles for Signal or other messaging services.

However I do agree with you fundamentally.
