Punjab Police Issues Security Guidelines for Muharram

The Punjab Police have released a detailed security advisory in preparation for the sacred month of Muharram. The advisory mandates that all senior officers, including the City Chief Police Officer (CCPO) of Lahore and field commanders throughout Punjab, implement stringent security measures for processions and religious gatherings.

Additional Inspector General (AIG) Operations, Zahid Nawaz Marwat, highlighted the necessity of close collaboration with religious scholars, peace committees, and organizers of majalis and processions.

Marwat stated, “No processions or gatherings will be allowed outside of the pre-approved routes and designated locations.” He also emphasized the strict enforcement of the Loudspeaker Act and warned against the unauthorized use of drones during events, asserting that any violations would lead to immediate legal action.

Regional Police Officers (RPOs), City Police Officers (CPOs), District Police Officers (DPOs), and traffic officials have been tasked with personally overseeing security arrangements throughout Muharram.

Additionally, Marwat has called for heightened security measures at mosques, imambargahs, and places of worship for minority communities across the province.

This proactive approach aims to maintain order and ensure a peaceful observance of Muharram for all communities.
